David specialises in resolving conflicts between renewable energy and biodiversity and has worked globally on projects totalling over 30GW of potential installed capacity. This work has spanned all aspects of the project life-cycle, from designing and leading baseline studies for Environmental and Social Impact Assessments, supporting project alignment with PS6, the development of offsets, and advice and training on operational monitoring. David is also part of the team developing global guidelines for impact thresholds and mitigation for bats at wind farms and helped develop best practice guidance for industry on renewable energy and biodiversity.
More broadly, David works across projects globally within The Biodiversity Consultancy, with 20 years’ experience in biodiversity conservation and the development and implementation of biodiversity management and monitoring programs. Before joining The Biodiversity Consultancy, David worked in a variety of environmental consulting, government and NGO roles in Nepal, Mongolia and Australia and has published numerous client reports and over 30 scientific papers and book chapters. He is particularly interested in birds and bats, helped establish Mongolia’s first bird ringing station and has worked on snipe migration in Japan/Australia and penguins in Antarctica.
