Filipe is an ecologist with over 15 years of experience as a consultant dealing with impacts on biodiversity in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. He specialises in the renewable energy sector, both onshore and offshore, with a focus on managing risks for wildlife through innovative mitigation strategies.
His work spans throughout all aspects of the project life-cycle, from risk screening, designing and coordinating baseline studies, conducting ESIAs, developing management plans, supporting alignment with lender standards and monitoring.
Filipe gained experience as a radar ornithologist while conducting monitoring of seabirds, raptors and nocturnal migration, and also while using radar for assessing bird collision risk at wind farms and birdstrike risk in airports.
He is an avid birdwatcher and conservationist; founding member of SPEA (Portuguese BirdLife partner), eBird regional editor and regional coordinator for several bird-related projects such as the Portuguese Breeding Bird Atlas.
He is a native Portuguese speaker, fluent in English and Spanish and can get by in French.
